what would Alice wear? - Alice in Wonderland

To finish up Alice week I thought I would find an answer to the question of what I think would Alice wear. I certainly feel I have found a lady with a great vintage style and a real eye for dressing. Let me introduce you to Eleonore Bridge.

 

Eleonore authors an incredible blog - le blog de la mechante or Mean girls blog. I have had one of these pink tutu pictures in my Flickr favourites for a while, but only this week ventured over to see the full image set and discovered this incredible blog. These photos were taken around Notre Dame on a wintry Paris day. This outfit is so fabulous and makes me so envious when I learn that the pieces come from chain stores - the pink tutu skirt is from Top Shop and the woolly tights H&M.

 

Here is another set of wonderful images - again the bubble skirt is H&M, the funky apple belt Topshop. Eleonore is so painfully chic and I am so envious of her style (and her wardrobe).I am thrilled she likes to play dress-ups and photograph them all as it is so much fun to look through!

 

More H&M pieces - the dress and bow belt. I don't know about you but I think it would be hard to be seen in public with Eleonore as she just looks so fabulous all the time - I suppose this should be expected for a Parisian lady. There is also a gallery of Alice In Wonderland photos which are a lot of fun - but I prefer to think of the modern Alice dressing exactly as Eleonore does, so I think I have found my modern day Alice.

tea party dress- ups - Alice in Wonderland

For today I thought I would have look about etsy and see if I could come up with something to wear to a mad hatters tea party. With a mad hat/headpiece in mind, I came across this amazing store;

 

These incredible headbands are from Kat Swank's Liaison etsy store. I think you could possibly steal the limelight from the Mad Hatter himself in one of these pieces! Aren't they incredible? There is so much detail and fabulous colour combinations all topped off with lovely photos of gorgeous girls! You can find more out about Kat here in an interview with Love My Dress. So with the headpiece sorted, how about some jewellery?

  

These are Alice In Wonderland pieces from the Karing is Shering etsy shop. I'm particularly partial to the white rabbit and garden door pendant. The Tea Time ring is also sweet and it's little lid opens up.

Another little find I came across is the Forkometry store on Made It (an all Australian handmade marketplace)

the look - Alice in Wonderland

In my past working life I have worked with stylists on photoshoots and by far the best part of the job was to take part in creating wonderful images. My favourite shoot were when we were photographing home accessories around colour palette themes. It is quite fascinating to watch a blank studio being transformed into a whole new environment. Today as part of the Alice in Wonderland series, I though I would take a look at stylists who have produced images influenced by the classic Lewis Carroll story.

This image is by stylist Deb Mclean. The combination of the bunnies with the greenery (reminiscent of a hedge maze) and the bold black and white stripes all combine to give an 'Alice' feel. You might recall a previous post I did about Deb. She is the incredible lady who takes the amazing iPhone images. Check out her blog Busy Being Fabulous (don't you wish you were busy being faulous? This image is by Lucas Allen, a New York based Australian stylist. I think it could be described as a modern take on the Alice them. I'm not sure what drew me to this image, but the black and white graphic feel is something I associate with Alice In Wonderland. I'll probably need to watch the older movies to find out why!

 

Another image by Lucas of a lush, green and very English hedge. I am certainly seeing a colour palette here - black, white and grass green.

A new find of mine is stylist Irina Graewe - discovered via Decor8.

Irina has done a series of still life images themed Fairy Tales and these are the few that for me seemed to be Alice inspired.

This is one talented stylist with a wonderful portfolio. She really adds a unique style to her images, whether through explosive colour accents or quirky, unexpected details. She goes from the quirky images above to these super pretty soft images.

This is certainly a stylist I will be visiting regularly for inspiration!

a tea party - Alice In Wonderland

Continuing the theme of Alice in Wonderland, I have a lovely inspirational tea party to share with you.

 

The above image is part of a photo shoot on show over at Style Me Pretty. I often take a peek at this wonderful wedding site. It is full of beautiful images that, even if you're not planning a wedding, can offer inspiration. The quality of the images is always outstanding and a real showcase for some very talented American wedding photographers and stylists. 

The series of images today is by Amorology Weddings and it is set in an orchard, so the colour palette is full of lots of green with burst of citrus colours. The eclectic mix of chairs and dinnerware is what reminded me of an Alice in Wonderland tea party.

As you can see there are definitely a few ideas to be borrowed. I love the vintage handkerchiefs used as a garland. I have a lovely collection of these from my grandmothers that haven't seen the light of day since I was a very little girl! I also like the metal bucket overflowing with a flowers and even some citrus branches, and again the miss-matched plates and glassware in those bright colours.

don't be late for tea - Alice in Wonderland

As we all know - it's very important to not be late in wonderland, well not if you value your head!
I found this gem over at Sweet Paul

 

This piece was used way back in December 2007 for Country Living magazine and it was a limited edition by Umbra. I just had a quick peek but they don't seem to have anything similar any more. I actually really like this piece. I often see lovely teacup and saucer sets that I would like to buy, but there is a limit to how many you can own. This is a nice way to display 12 all at once!

all things alice

I've decided to theme all my posts this week around Alice In Wonderland. To celebrate the visual feast that (from the trailers anyway) Tim Burton's take on the classic fairytale, I will explore both the visual style and creative themes of this much anticipated movie. I myself am really looking forward to seeing the movie in 3D.

Of course, one of the most iconic images in the build up to this movie has been Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter character.

I think all the characters look amazing! I especially like Matt Lucas as Tweedledum and Tweedledee!
